Overview:
"UFO Cowtcher is a hyper-casual mobile game that mixes 2D hand-drawn sprites and 3D low-poly environments with an axonometric perspective inspired by the classic gacha UFO catching machine (toy vending machine).
In this game, players take on the role of a UFO hampered by a short supply of fuel that runs out over time, for this reason, the players' goal is to catch as many cows as possible to replenish this resource and make the game last longer.
In their adventure across the galaxy, players will have to deal with tons of different types of cows, each with their own unique appearance and special abilities, as they try to escape the UFO.
My role:
As a game designer, I was involved in the ideation, prototyping and testing of every system in the game. In particular, my work consisted of:
- Ideation, Rapid Prototyping and Testing
- Feedback collection and analysis
- Iterative Game Design
- Documentation production (pitch document, GDD and feedback reports) - see here
In addition to my main activity as a game designer, I also created every single 2D asset in the game using a graphics editor similar to Photoshop.
UFO Cowtcher is the result of the group project of the second level of the Game Design course at Digital Bros Game Academy. The project was realised in collaboration with Francesco Brancato and Francesco Luzzi (game designers), Andrea Buzzi and Gabriele Ferilli (game programmers).
(see my portfolio for more details.)
Notes:
The game is optimised for the proportions of the most popular smartphones and the use of touchscreens, but it is also possible to play this web version on PC using the inputs highlighted above.
Hidden in the main game menu is a secret menu for activating cheats and developer options, which can be useful for accessing advanced game content. Click on the UFO Cowtcher game logo to access these options.
Below on this page you will find the downloadable apk for the Android version of the game, the Game Design Document (GDD) and the Pitch Document of this project.
